Jones Beach, Early Autumn

A poem.

Jones Beach, Early Autumn

The families have crossed
听the summer portal,
听leaving the rocky edge
听washed clean,
听water table set for us with broth
听of kelp tangles, mussels, razor-edged clams,
听scent of generously salted earth.
I plant my feet in cool
听depths of sand to watch
听the tide inch back
听home again.
