Nor'easter

A poem.

Nor'easter

I felt the house shake 鈥 the rain poured
The waves screamed 鈥
The wind raged 鈥
Nor'easter slammed the coast

I had nailed planks
Across the windows 鈥
Like pirate patches
On blind men's eyes

I waited 鈥 the gallon jugs filled 鈥
The shortwave tuned 鈥
I checked the flashlight again
Spotlighting 鈥 a Gypsy Moth 鈥

Caged 鈥 behind the screen
Bronze 鈥 against black glass
As the storm howled
Her wing tips 鈥 barely fluttered.
