'The Dressmaker' induces whiplash with its moodswings

In 鈥淭he Dressmaker,鈥 the first film in 18 years to be directed by the聽Australian Jocelyn Moorhouse, Kate Winslet plays a fashionista from聽Paris who returns to her hometown of Dungatar and wreaks havoc聽on its assorted daffy inhabitants.聽
The film has so many moodswings that聽watching it induces whiplash, and just about everybody in it, from Winslet聽on down to Judy Davis, playing the dressmaker鈥檚 crotchety mother,聽flagrantly overdoes it. Grade:聽C (Rated R for brief language and a scene of violence.)聽
