'Jupiter Ascending': The nutty movie isn't exactly 'The Matrix'

The long-delayed 3-D "Jupiter Ascending," the new sci-fi extravaganza聽from the Wachowskis, has finally entered Earth鈥檚 orbit. It鈥檚 one of the聽more nutty futuristic escapades I鈥檝e ever seen, although that鈥檚 not quite聽the same thing as saying I liked it.聽
Mila Kunis plays Jupiter Jones, who聽lives out her meager existence in Chicago cleaning other people鈥檚 homes.聽It turns out 鈥 long story 鈥 that she is actually the Queen of the Universe.聽Or something like that.
Her purported royalty doesn鈥檛 really faze her. She鈥檇 just as soon people聽didn鈥檛 call her 鈥淵our Majesty," unless maybe it鈥檚 Caine, the hunky,聽genetically engineered intergalactic hunter played by Channing Tatum聽in major mumbly mode. Caine has a slight strain of wolf DNA, though聽he鈥檚 far from a Wolverine. Zooming around the space-time continuum,聽he鈥檚 more like the Silver Surfer. Caine is Jupiter鈥檚 protector from the聽depredations of the Abrasax family, headed by Eddie Redmayne鈥檚 ruthless聽Balem, who speaks in oozingly soft tones for that extra-special creepola聽effect.聽
I enjoyed this movie more than the last two films from the Wachowskis,聽the interminable "Cloud Atlas" and "Speed Racer." On the other hand,聽"The Matrix" it's not. Grade:聽C (Rated PG-13 for some violence, sequences of sci-fi action, some suggestive content and partial nudity.)
