Player engaged midcourt, video goes viral
Iowa State forward Anna Prins is known for rejecting the shots of NCAA basketball opponents.
But when her boyfriend got down on one knee this week, at midcourt, Prins wasn't going to reject his proposal.
She said, "I do."
That's right, Ryan De Hamer, proposed marriage to the 6-foot 7-inch Iowa State senior in the middle of the court Sunday, right after her team beat Alabama State.
鈥淚 was crying,鈥� said Prins, who has 71 career blocked shots. 鈥淚 couldn鈥檛 have asked for a better place, just with all the people that were involved: Coach (Bill Fennelly), my team, the fans in Hilton, my family was there. Pretty special," of Ames, Iowa.
Prins boyfriend gave her coach Bill Fennelly a heads up that the proposal was coming. But he kept quiet.
鈥淭here鈥檚 not very many times where I鈥檒l admit there are other things more important than basketball,鈥� Fennelly said. 鈥淭hat was one of those times. Fun to be a part of.鈥�
The video of the proposal has gone viral now, setting the bar pretty high for other would be suitors, notes Fennelly.
