'She Loves Me': Zachary Levi joins the Broadway production

Actor Zachary Levi will reportedly appear on Broadway.
鈥淐huck鈥 actor Levi and Broadway veteran Laura Benanti will in a revival of the musical 鈥淪he Loves Me.鈥 Josh Radnor of 鈥淗ow I Met Your Mother鈥 was set to star in Levi鈥檚 role but will now not appear in the show.聽
鈥淪he Loves Me鈥 opened on Broadway in 1963. If they don鈥檛 know 鈥淪he Loves Me,鈥 many movie fans are probably familiar with the plot of the musical 鈥 鈥淪he Loves Me鈥 is an adaptation of the play 鈥淧arfumerie鈥 by writer Miklos Laszlo, which was also the basis for the 1940 James Stewart movie 鈥淭he Shop Around the Corner鈥 and the 1998 romantic comedy 鈥淵ou鈥檝e Got Mail.鈥
Levi is also set to star in 鈥淗eroes Reborn,鈥 the upcoming 13-episode continuation of NBC鈥檚 show 鈥淗eroes,鈥 and recently appeared in 鈥淭hor: The Dark World鈥 and the animated movie 鈥淭angled.鈥 He also starred in the Broadway musical 鈥淔irst Date鈥 in 2013. Benanti has won a Tony Award for best featured actress in a musical for her work in the 2008 musical 鈥淕ypsy鈥 and has been nominated for other Tonys as well. She recently appeared in NBC鈥檚 production 鈥淭he Sound of Music Live!鈥
鈥淪he Loves Me,鈥 which is set to open this March, is set in the 1930s and is a classic musical. It has company in such current Broadway shows as 鈥淎n American in Paris,鈥 which is an original show, not a revival, but is based on a 1951 film; 鈥淥n the Town,鈥 which is based on a 1940s show; and 鈥淭he King and I,鈥 which is a revival of a 1950s musical.
But it was an innovative new show that won the top musical prize at this past year鈥檚 Tony Awards. The musical 鈥淔un Home,鈥 which is based on the acclaimed graphic novel by Alison Bechdel about Bechdel鈥檚 relationship with her father and coming to terms with her identity, won the Best Musical Tony Award over classic musical 鈥淎n American in Paris." The two productions were widely viewed as the frontrunners for the prize.
In terms of , it鈥檚 a mix of innovative new shows and classic productions. 鈥淭he Lion King,鈥 the old Disney favorite, is at number one for the week of Aug. 30, and fellow Disney production 鈥淎laddin鈥 is at number two. However, the hip-hop musical based on the first treasury secretary, 鈥淗amilton,鈥 which just recently opened to rave reviews, is at third, showing an appetite for a slightly different product besides the Disney productions and old stalwarts like "Wicked" that usually top the theater box office.
