'Fantastic Beasts': Here's who Colin Farrell is reportedly playing

Actor Colin Farrell will apparently soon be starring in a much less bleak project than the HBO drama "True Detective."聽
Farrell has reportedly to star in 鈥淔antastic Beasts and Where to Find Them,鈥� the film written by 鈥淗arry Potter鈥� author J.K. Rowling and set in Harry鈥檚 world. The actor will play a character known as Graves whom protagonist Newt Scamander encounters in New York.聽
鈥淔antastic鈥� centers on Newt, who is an expert on magical creatures. Eddie Redmayne of 鈥淭he Theory of Everything鈥� will play Newt, while actors Ezra Miller, Alison Sudol, and Katherine Waterston have also signed on for the movie.
It will be interesting to see what role Graves plays in the story, about which 鈥淧otter鈥� fans know very little. As young adult franchises have come to be big business in Hollywood, the casting of such crucial roles as Harry Potter and Katniss Everdeen have made headlines, but older actors have also been needed to fill the roles in these fictional worlds.
Many of them have attracted acclaimed actors, with the original 鈥淧otter鈥� series starring such actors as Gary Oldman, Michael Gambon, Alan Rickman, Maggie Smith, and Imelda Staunton. (The sheer number of characters in the 鈥淧otter鈥� world and Rowling鈥檚 requirement that actors not be faking an accent means that there aren鈥檛 a lot of A-list British actors out there who haven't appeared in the 鈥淧otter鈥� films.)
Movie series like 鈥淭he Hunger Games鈥� and 鈥淒ivergent鈥� have followed the lead of 鈥淧otter,鈥� with critically beloved actors like Philip Seymour Hoffman and Julianne Moore coming on board for 鈥淗unger鈥� and Kate Winslet starring in the 鈥淒ivergent鈥� movie series.聽
Farrell joining 鈥淔antastic鈥� continues this trend. In addition to appearing in 鈥淒etective鈥� (though in its less-acclaimed season), Farrell has starred in such critically-well-received films as 鈥淚n Bruges,鈥� 鈥淐razy Heart,鈥� and 鈥淭he New World.鈥� He won a Golden Globe for Best Actor for his work in 鈥淏ruges.鈥澛�
The first 鈥淔antastic鈥� movie is set to be released in November 2016.
