Amanda Peterson starred in '80s teen comedy 'Can't Buy Me Love'

Actress Amanda Peterson, who appeared in such films as the 1982 movie 鈥淎nnie,鈥 1985鈥檚 鈥淓xplorers,鈥 and the 1994 movie 鈥淲indrunner,鈥 has reportedly died at her home in Greely, Colo. at the age of 43.
Ms. Peterson is often best remembered for her role in the 1987 film 鈥淐an鈥檛 Buy Me Love,鈥 in which she portrayed popular cheerleader Cindy and co-starred opposite Patrick Dempsey. In the film, Dempsey鈥檚 character Ronald pays Cindy to pose as his girlfriend, but the two end up being drawn to one another.
Dempsey, of course, starred on the long-running ABC medical drama 鈥淕rey鈥檚 Anatomy鈥 and recently appeared in such films as 鈥淭ransformers: Dark of the Moon鈥 and 鈥淰alentine鈥檚 Day.鈥 鈥淟ove鈥 also co-starred actor Seth Green, who stars in the Fox animated sitcom 鈥淔amily Guy.鈥 聽聽
Peterson鈥檚 most well-known movie 鈥淟ove鈥 was released in the heyday of 80s teen comedy films (鈥淟ove鈥 came out the year after the movies 鈥淧retty in Pink鈥 and 鈥淔erris Bueller鈥檚 Day Off,鈥 and the same year as the movie 鈥淪ome Kind of Wonderful鈥) and 鈥淟ove鈥 helped cement the decade鈥檚 reputation as a golden era of films aimed at teenagers. The film was remade in 2003 as the movie 鈥淟ove Don鈥檛 Cost a Thing鈥 with actors Nick Cannon and Christina Milian, but the film was not well-received by critics.聽
鈥淟ove鈥 is now cited by some fans as one of the best teen movies to come out of the era, with the website naming 鈥淟ove鈥 as one of the best underrated movies of the 鈥80s and calling it an 鈥溾80s classic,鈥 while writer Matt Donnelly called the film 鈥渂eloved 鈥 the film sits in a canon of 鈥80s fare alongside John Hughes聽and other angst masters鈥 and writer Chuck Walton wrote that the film is one of 鈥渢he essential 鈥80s teen movies 鈥 [part of the] cream of the crop of teen movie nirvana.鈥
