James Horner: A look at the upcoming movies which will feature his music

It has been confirmed that Oscar-winning composer James Horner died in a plane crash.
Reports surfaced earlier this week that a plane belonging to Mr. Horner had crashed and the pilot had been killed, but it was not confirmed whether the pilot was Horner. Now the composer鈥檚 agent Michael Gorfaine has released a statement saying that Horner was killed.聽
鈥淚t is with the deepest regret and sorrow that we mourn the tragic passing of our dear colleague, long-time client and great friend, composer James Horner,鈥 the statement read, according to . 鈥淥ur thoughts and prayers are with James鈥 family at this difficult time, and also with the millions of people around the world who loved his music.鈥澛
Horner won the Oscar for Best Original Score for his work on the 1997 movie 鈥淭itanic鈥 and Best Original Song with lyrics by Will Jennings for the 鈥淭itanic鈥 song 鈥淢y Heart Will Go On.鈥 He was also nominated for Oscars for his scores for the films 鈥淎vatar,鈥 鈥淎 Beautiful Mind,鈥 鈥淎pollo 13,鈥 鈥淏raveheart,鈥 and 鈥淔ield of Dreams,鈥 among other nods.
The prolific composer still has work that has yet to be released in movie theaters. Horner did the music for the film 鈥淪outhpaw,鈥 which is coming out this July and stars Jake Gyllenhaal as boxer Billy Hope, who must regain his boxing prowess in order to win back his family. 鈥淛ames Horner鈥檚 synth score adds to the film鈥檚 brooding tenor,鈥 writer Justin Chang wrote of the music.聽
Horner also composed the score for the film 鈥淲olf Totem,鈥 a Chinese-language film that is scheduled to be released in American theaters this September. In an early review, writer Boyd van Hoeij wrote that a scene in the film 鈥渙ffers a solid showcase of not only聽James Horner鈥檚 strings and, later, brass-dominated score, which expertly ratchets up the tension.鈥
Another forthcoming film where audience members will get to hear Horner鈥檚 work is the film 鈥淭he 33,鈥 which will be released this November and is based on the 2010 mining incident in Chile in which all 33 miners were saved. According to , actors Antonio Banderas, Juliette Binoche, Gabriel Byrne, and Lou Diamond Phillips are set to star in the movie.
