SAG Awards 2015: Here's who took the big prizes

Oscar contender 鈥淏irdman鈥� got an awards season boost at the 2015 Screen Actors Guild Awards, taking the Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture prize (the SAG equivalent of the Best Picture award).聽
The films 鈥淏oyhood,鈥� which was filmed over 12 years and follows a boy and his family, and 鈥淏irdman,鈥� which centers on the struggles of an actor trying to revive his career by starring in a Broadway play, are currently regarded as two of the frontrunners for the Oscars Best Picture prize. At the Golden Globes, 鈥淏oyhood鈥� competed in the Best Motion Picture 鈥� Drama category, while 鈥淏irdman鈥� was part of the Best Motion Picture 鈥� Comedy or Musical race, but when the two films faced off in the same category at the SAG Awards, 鈥淏irdman鈥� emerged as the victor. (鈥淏irdman鈥� didn鈥檛 take the Best Motion Picture 鈥� Comedy or Musical prize at the Globes, either 鈥� that went to the film 鈥淭he Grand Budapest Hotel鈥� 鈥� so this is an important win for 鈥淏irdman.鈥�)
Meanwhile, the winners in the SAG Awards film acting categories look more and more like frontrunners, if not locks, for wins at the Oscars. As at the Golden Globes, 鈥淭he Theory of Everything鈥� actor Eddie Redmayne took home the Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role award, while Julianne Moore of 鈥淪till Alice鈥� won the Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role prize. 鈥淏oyhood鈥� actress Patricia Arquette took the Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role award, while J.K. Simmons of 鈥淲hiplash鈥� won the Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role prize. All of them will be hard to beat come Oscar night.聽
As for the TV categories, the big drama prize 鈥� Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series 鈥� went to the British drama 鈥淒ownton Abbey,鈥� while the TV show 鈥淥range is the New Black鈥� won the comedy equivalent, titled Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series. Viola Davis won the Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series award for her show 鈥淗ow to Get Away with Murder,鈥� while 鈥�House of Cards鈥� actor Kevin Spacey won the Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series. 鈥淥range Is the New Black鈥� actress Uzo Aduba took the Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series award, while William H. Macy of 鈥淪hameless鈥� won the Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series award.
