Will "Django Unchained" actor Christoph Waltz play the villain in the newest "James Bond" movie?
According to the , Waltz has officially come on board the film, which is being directed by "Skyfall" helmer Sam Mendes. reporters Linda Ge and Jeff Sneider note that the Daily Mail writer who reported the news, Baz Bamigboye, "has a solid track record when it comes to 007 news."
According to Bamigboye, he was told by a 鈥淏ond insider鈥 that 鈥渋t鈥檚 not immediately evident whether the part鈥檚 friend, or foe, or a bit of both鈥 and that 鈥渟omeone else on the production鈥 called Waltz鈥檚 character 鈥渃unning鈥 a nemesis of sorts.鈥
Bamigboye writes that 鈥渁 Bond 24 spook鈥 said, 鈥淛ust because he has played bad guys in other movies doesn鈥檛 mean he鈥檚 going to be the baddie here,鈥 but that that seemed to be 鈥渁 clear bit of misdirection.鈥
According to TheWrap, neither Waltz nor EON Productions returned their requests for comment.
Waltz won his first Best Supporting Actor Oscar for the 2009 Quentin Tarantino film 鈥淚nglourious Basterds,鈥 in which he played the charismatic villain Colonel Hans Landa. In his review of 鈥淓lephants,鈥 Monitor film critic Peter Rainer wrote that Waltz has a 鈥済ift for preening nastiness.鈥
The new 鈥淏ond鈥 film will be actor Daniel Craig鈥檚 fourth outing as the superspy. Without accounting for inflation, the previous 鈥淏ond鈥 movie, 2012鈥檚 鈥淪kyfall,鈥 was the highest-grossing movie in the series, according to the . According to TheWrap, Naomie Harris, Ben Whishaw, and Ralph Fiennes are all expected to return for the new film.聽
