Newbies and TV old-timers alike received Emmy nods on July 10, with HBO scoring especially well for their dramas 鈥�Game of Thrones,鈥� which received the most nominations of any show, and 鈥淭rue Detective,鈥� which the network chose to nominate as a drama series (rather than a miniseries) and which received a nod in that category.

After 鈥淭hrones,鈥� the FX show 鈥�Fargo,鈥� based off the Oscar-winning 1996 Coen brothers movie, received the most nominations with 18 (鈥淭hrones鈥� received 19). 鈥�American Horror Story,鈥� also on FX, received the next-most with 17.

Newcomers include the HBO show 鈥淪ilicon Valley,鈥� which was nominated in the Outstanding Comedy Series category, as well as Netflix鈥檚 鈥淥range Is the New Black,鈥� which also received a Comedy Series nod; 鈥淒etective,鈥� for which Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson received nods for the first time; Lizzy Caplan, who received an Outstanding Leading Actress in a Drama Series nomination for the Showtime series 鈥淢asters of Sex鈥�; Jon Voight, who was nominated in the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama category for the Showtime show 鈥淩ay Donovan鈥� (he had been nominated before, but not for 鈥淒onovan鈥�); Lena Headey for 鈥淭hrones鈥�; William H. Macy, who was nominated for the Showtime TV show 鈥淪hameless鈥� for the first time in the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series category; Ricky Gervais, who was nominated for Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for the Netflix show 鈥淒erek鈥� for the first time; Taylor Schilling, who was nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for 鈥淥range鈥�; Fred Armisen, who received a nod as Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for IFC鈥檚 鈥淧ortlandia鈥�; Andre Braugher, who was also nominated as Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy for the Fox series 鈥淏rooklyn Nine-Nine鈥�; and Allison Janney of CBS鈥檚 鈥淢om,鈥� Kate McKinnon of 鈥淪aturday Night Live,鈥� and Kate Mulgrew of 鈥淥range Is the New Black,鈥� who were all nominated for their shows in the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series category for the first time.

Besides 鈥淭hrones鈥� and 鈥淒etective,鈥� the AMC shows 鈥�Breaking Bad鈥� and 鈥�Mad Men鈥� as well as PBS鈥檚 鈥�Downton Abbey鈥� and Netflix鈥檚 鈥�House of Cards鈥� will be battling it out for Outstanding Drama Series. 鈥淐ards鈥� made headlines last year when it became the first digitally聽distributed聽series to earn nominations in major Emmy categories.聽

In addition to 鈥淥range鈥� and 鈥淰alley,鈥� the CBS program 鈥�The Big Bang Theory,鈥� ABC鈥檚 鈥�Modern Family,鈥� the FX series 鈥�Louie,鈥� and HBO鈥檚 鈥�Veep鈥� are competing in the Outstanding Comedy Series category.

鈥淗orror鈥� and 鈥淔argo鈥� are facing off in the Best Miniseries category with the Starz show 鈥淭he White Queen,鈥� HBO鈥檚 鈥淭reme,鈥� the BBC America show 鈥淟uther,鈥� and 鈥淏onnie & Clyde,鈥� which was from A&E, History, and Lifetime.
