'Brooklyn Nine-Nine': Will Andy Samberg's cop comedy be a winner?

After appearing on 鈥淪aturday Night Live鈥 for seven years and producing phenomenally popular 鈥淒igital Shorts,鈥 how will Andy Samberg transition to a traditional sitcom?
Samberg is starring in the Fox comedy 鈥Brooklyn Nine-Nine,鈥 a new comedy premiering Sept. 17, which follows Samberg鈥檚 character Jake Peralta, a police detective whose immature ways are challenged by his precinct鈥檚 strict captain (Andre Braugher). 鈥淕ossip Girl鈥 actress Melissa Fumero is playing Jake鈥檚 partner Amy.
The show was created by Michael Schur, who is the executive producer and co-creator of the NBC comedy 鈥Parks and Recreation,鈥 and Dan Goor, also an executive producer for 鈥淧arks.鈥
Some are already hailing 鈥淏rooklyn鈥 as a success, with writer Matt Webb Mitovitch calling 鈥淏rooklyn鈥 鈥渢he fall鈥檚 best new comedy鈥 after having seen the pilot. (TV writers often clarify that their appraisals of pilots that haven鈥檛 yet aired are more first impressions than reviews because of the pilots鈥 unfinished nature and how often they change before they make it to primetime.)
鈥淚s it doing anything revolutionary?鈥 Mitovitch wrote of the pilot, 鈥渘ot really鈥 I think it successfully serves up the rare cop shop comedy, filled with LOLs and boasting a vivid, diverse ensemble devoid of any clunkers.鈥
writer Daniel Fienberg said the show was 鈥渙ne of this fall's better comedy pilots鈥 but that the laughs were a little lacking.
鈥淔or the show to work, the writers will need to hone the consistency of its comedic flow,鈥 he wrote. 鈥淭he pieces are all here and they just need to gel a tiny bit more for "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" to become a winner.鈥
Meanwhile, writer Becky Kirsch said she found Samberg 鈥渄ownright delightful鈥 but that 鈥渨hile some of the supporting characters work, like Braugher as the intimidating new captain of the police force and Melissa Fumero as Jake's love interest/rival, a lot of the other faces around the police station are too 肠补谤迟辞辞苍测.鈥
Will viewers be drawn in by Samberg鈥檚 new comedy?
