'Ben and Kate' canceled? Fox takes its show off Tuesdays

Is the Fox freshman comedy 鈥淏en and Kate鈥 gone for good?
The network announced that it鈥檚 taking 鈥淏en鈥 off its schedule for Tuesday nights and will be subbing in repeat episodes of another Fox comedy, 鈥淩aising Hope,鈥 in the slot formerly occupied by 鈥淏en.鈥
There are six episodes that were filmed of the show鈥檚 first season that haven鈥檛 aired yet, and Fox reportedly the remaining episodes will find airtime at some point.
鈥淏en and Kate鈥 starred Nat Faxon and Dakota Johnson as a relaxed brother and more practical sister who move in together so Ben can help take care of Kate鈥檚 young daughter.
Like another new Fox comedy on Tuesdays, 鈥淭he Mindy Project,鈥 鈥淏en鈥 has struggled in the ratings all year. ABC took its Tuesday comedy 鈥淒on鈥檛 Trust the B---- in Apartment 23,鈥 which had similar problems with ratings, off its schedule yesterday.聽As with 鈥淏en,鈥 ABC didn鈥檛 say 鈥淭rust鈥 was officially canceled 鈥 this year, networks have often simply taken a show off its schedule, but not said outright that the comedy or drama is done.
As writer James Hibberd pointed out, the time slot was a good one and Fox gave the comedy all possible support.
鈥淕颈惫别苍 Ben and Kate鈥榮 ratings, the move wasn鈥檛 a surprise (if anything, some were shocked the show received an order for additional episodes last fall),鈥 Hibberd wrote. 鈥淭his isn鈥檛 one of those decisions where you say, 鈥楾he network didn鈥檛 give it a chance.鈥欌
Tuesday鈥檚 comedy lineup across the networks is looking shaky, said writer Bill Carter.
鈥淐omedy on Tuesday appears to be nearing complete rejection,鈥 he wrote. 鈥淣BC鈥檚 two new series, 鈥楪o On鈥 and 鈥楾he New Normal,鈥 both sank to new lows this week, even though Tuesday鈥檚 strongest network, CBS, was offering only repeats all night. Both new NBC comedies have had their ratings plunge since they were separated from the powerful lead-in of 鈥楾he Voice.鈥 Their once-secure status as shows set to survive the season could now be threatened.鈥澛
While not all of these shows have publicly gotten the axe, new shows that debuted this fall that have either been officially canceled or been taken off their network鈥檚 schedule include 鈥666 Park Avenue,鈥 鈥淟ast Resort,鈥 鈥淧artners,鈥 鈥淢ade in Jersey,鈥 鈥淭he Mob Doctor,鈥 鈥淎nimal Practice,鈥 and 鈥淓mily Owens, M.D.鈥 (The fall season was especially hard on medical shows.)
