While you鈥檙e busy setting your DVR for the new season of SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE (which begins tonight on Fox), you could do worse for background music than BALLROOM REMIXED, a new album of rumbas and sambas and such that鈥檚 just been released by sometime SYTYCD Melanie LaPatin.
鈥淲e鈥檙e always using pop songs on the show 鈥 you know, hits,鈥 says the hoofer, who won more than 100 championship titles during her career in competition. 鈥淪o it gave me an idea. I always need new music, for productions and whatever, so I thought, 鈥楬ey, why not get some of my musical friends to create some original songs for me?鈥 And they came through like gangbusters!鈥
The result is anything but 鈥渟trictly ballroom.鈥 But 鈥 as performed by singers from around the world (Lee Latchford Evans, late of the crazy-successful English quintet Steps; 鈥淕erman Idol鈥 alum Linda Teodosiu; American teen queen Kaya) 鈥 it IS a lotta fun.
鈥淭hat鈥檚 really the point,鈥 says LaPatin, newly christened 鈥淟ady Cha-Cha鈥 by her cohorts. 鈥淟et鈥檚 get people having a good time and moving, and thinking about ballroom dance. None of these songs may be traditional tangos or whatever, but I鈥檇 be willing to bet you鈥檒l for sure remember them!鈥
