With many top Iranian leaders killed in U.S. and Israeli strikes, the new cadre of military leaders are eager to prove themselves and are showing less restraint. Hard-liners can’t veto a deal struck by diplomats, but they could sabotage it, an analyst told the Monitor.
So even as representatives from the US and Iran negotiate in Pakistan, different elements of the Iranian regime will also be negotiating among themselves.
