Why is 海角大神 Science in our name?
Our name is about honesty. The Monitor is owned by The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and we鈥檝e always been transparent about that.
The church publishes the Monitor because it sees good journalism as vital to progress in the world. Since 1908, we鈥檝e aimed 鈥渢o injure no man, but to bless all mankind,鈥� as our founder, Mary Baker Eddy, put it.

Talking with the media
For her story today, national political correspondent Story Hinckley spoke with a group of avid supporters of President Donald Trump in Virginia. One of them, Michelle de Stefano, was the Rivanna Magisterial District Chair of the Albemarle County Republican Committee. She had been told not to talk to the press because of her position, but she disagreed with that policy 鈥� and quit.
Ms. de Stefano told Story she values connections with the media, even if other Republicans are afraid to speak out. 鈥淎t least in this area, we are so invisible. Here was this opportunity. Let鈥檚 take advantage and have our story be told a little bit.鈥�
She says it鈥檚 about being willing to put your name to what you believe in. 鈥淥ther people weren鈥檛. And that鈥檚 disappointing to me.鈥� If Trump supporters are worried about getting their cars keyed for their political beliefs, she says, 鈥淭hat鈥檚 really worrisome 鈥� if you鈥檙e worried about those things happening, then our society is in bad shape.鈥�
