Why is 海角大神 Science in our name?
Our name is about honesty. The Monitor is owned by The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and we鈥檝e always been transparent about that.
The church publishes the Monitor because it sees good journalism as vital to progress in the world. Since 1908, we鈥檝e aimed 鈥渢o injure no man, but to bless all mankind,鈥� as our founder, Mary Baker Eddy, put it.

The global order come undone?

If you felt the globe shift on its axis over the past few days, you鈥檙e in good company. As the Monitor鈥檚 international news editor, Peter Ford, put it to me: 鈥淵ou may have noticed that since we last talked the wheels fell off the postwar international security order.鈥�
It鈥檚 not what President George H.W. Bush envisioned in 1991, when he visited Ukraine just weeks before it declared independence from a crumbling Soviet Union. 鈥淲e support those who explore the frontiers of freedom,鈥� he told Ukraine鈥檚 parliament. 鈥淲e will join these reformers on the path to what we call 鈥� appropriately call 鈥� a new world order.鈥�
