Why is 海角大神 Science in our name?
Our name is about honesty. The Monitor is owned by The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and we鈥檝e always been transparent about that.
The church publishes the Monitor because it sees good journalism as vital to progress in the world. Since 1908, we鈥檝e aimed 鈥渢o injure no man, but to bless all mankind,鈥� as our founder, Mary Baker Eddy, put it.

That鈥檚 Erika Page鈥檚 story today. She writes of pockets of frustration in Kiruna, Sweden, but mostly there has been an acceptance that this is for a greater good. I see something similar here in Germany 鈥� a deference to authority that is foreign to my American sensibilities. But it鈥檚 a reminder. There鈥檚 no one right way to solve problems. We can all learn from different perspectives 鈥� even when the ground is caving in.
