On a day when there was another school shooting, this time by a boy in Maryland, I couldn鈥檛 get a song out of my head.

It鈥檚 climbing the charts, and it鈥檚 the perfect antidote to 鈥渢oxic masculinity.鈥�

Yes, the title, "," and the first verses sound rather ominous. 聽It鈥檚 about a girl on a drinking binge, bouncing from bar to bar, headed for trouble.

Then comes the chorus:

Take a drunk girl home

Let her sleep all alone

Leave her keys on the counter, your number by the phone

Pick up her life she threw on the floor

Leave the hall lights on walk out and lock the door

That's how she knows the difference between a boy and man

The song was co-written by Chris Janson and two other fathers. 鈥淲e wrote it from a father鈥檚 perspective,鈥� . 鈥淚f our daughters ever got into that situation.... We would hope that a young man ... would take great care of them with great respect, do the right thing....鈥�

That's not to suggest that women require sheltering by men from men. But for this father of daughters, the message of respect in a fraught moment is worth amplifying.
