Clint Eastwood Chrysler Super bowl commercial: Facebook fans respond

If you didn鈥檛 see it aired on TV during halftime of the Super bowl Sunday, you鈥檝e likely heard about it by now: The Clint Eastwood Chrysler commercial.

Beyond the expected swooning over Mr. Eastwood鈥檚 gravelly narration of gritty Detroit scenes, the ad has been making waves for its perceived political stance. Since it touts the auto-industry鈥檚 comeback, GOP strategists like Karl Rove have registered their disgust with what they see as a tacit endorsement of Obama鈥檚 auto-industry bailout. And folks in the pro-Obama camp have been happy to claim the thank you. Eastwood himself told Fox TV Monday: "I am certainly not politically affiliated with Mr. Obama. It was meant to be a message ... just about job growth and the spirit of America."

After our own Peter Grier blogged on the debate, we took this question to : After watching this video, do you think Chrysler came out with a pro-Obama commercial, or a patriotic commercial?

Monitor readers responded with characteristic passion, insight, and wit. We鈥檝e culled more than 125 comments and grouped the best into 9 categories.

1. Not a question of either/or

CSM introduction implies they are mutually exclusive... Obama + Patriotic. Why is that?

It's both. Obama saved the auto industry, and that was good for America. They're not mutually exclusive.
