Hewlett-Packard recalls 5 million power cords over fire danger

Hewlett-Packard聽Company is聽recalling聽about 5.6 million notebook computer AC聽power聽cords聽in this country and another 446,700 in Canada because of possible overheating, which can pose a fire and burn hazard.
HP has received 29 reports of聽power聽cords聽overheating and melting or charring, resulting in two claims of minor burns and 13 claims of minor property damage.
The聽Hewlett-Packard聽LS-15 AC聽power聽cords聽were distributed with HP and Compaq notebook and mini notebook computers, and with AC adapter-powered accessories including docking stations.
The聽power聽cords聽are black and have an "LS-15" molded on the AC adapter end of the聽cord. They were manufactured in China.
The notebook and mini-notebook computers and accessories were sold with the AC聽power聽cords聽at computer and electronics stores, authorized dealers and online at聽聽from September 2010 to June 2012 for about $500 to $1500.
Consumers are advised to immediately stop using and unplug the聽recalled聽power聽cords聽and contact聽Hewlett-Packard聽to order a free replacement.
