USPS in Chicago plans Sunday holiday deliveries

USPS delivers packages in Chicago on the two Sundays before Christmas to meet Dec. 24 deadline. Chicago's USPS is also starting early-morning deliveries because of unexpected surge of packages.

The U.S.聽Postal聽Service聽in Chicago plans to deliver packages on the two Sundays before Christmas to make sure packages arrive on time for the holiday.

The聽postal聽service聽announced the extra deliveries Friday, saying a surge in packages mailed this holiday season exceeded projections.

The Chicago Post Office also will start early-morning package deliveries through the week.

Post office officials advise sending first-class mail by Friday to make sure it arrives before Christmas. The deadline for sending priority mail in time is Saturday, Dec. 21.

Residents are asked to clear snow and ice to help mail carriers.
