'Binders full of women' and Romney: the presidential debate

So of course, the world is all 鈥渁twitter鈥� about the 鈥渂inders full of women鈥� comment (in the聽CNN ; here鈥檚聽the 聽for reference鈥搄ust search 鈥渂inders鈥�).
Yes, the visual was ridiculous, and the comedians are going to have a field day with this (beyond the field days ordinary bloggers and tweeters have already had).聽 But the whole exchange bugged me more than amused me.聽 I was bothered by the suggestion that this is how women get hired to high positions: employers have it pointed out to them (even via talking to themselves) that the first-round 鈥渜ualified鈥� applicants are all men. So they are told to go look for more women鈥搕o collect the resumes in 鈥渂inders鈥濃�揵ecause they don鈥檛 already聽know聽these women to be qualified the first time around; they only think those women 鈥�肠辞耻濒诲听be qualified鈥� in their lookingagain.聽 And they have to become 鈥渁nxious鈥� enough to hire so many more people such that the women can finally rise over the bar.聽 Well, yukk to all that.聽 I don鈥檛 find it so funny, and I hope I am never hired by someone who found me only in a 鈥渂inder.鈥�
Still, I look forward to the SNL version.
