  • The IRS expects more than 153 million individual tax returns to be filed in 2017.
  • More than 80 percent will be prepared electronically.
  • Last year the average refund was $2,857; this year is expected to be similar.
  • To get your refund sooner, the IRS recommends choosing to have your return check deposited directly into your bank account.
  • 9 out of 10 of taxpayers will get their refund in 21 days or fewer.
