4. Protect the computer itself

Don't put sensitive information on a computer. If you have to keep it on the hard disk, at least encrypt it.

With so many being stolen, it's not just transactions online you need to worry about, it's your computer itself. Do you store sensitive information in your computer, such as a file with all your passwords in it? If you do, you need to password protect your computer and encrypt your files.

In Windows, encrypt a file by right-clicking on it and choosing 鈥淧roperties鈥. Under the 鈥淕eneral鈥 tab, click 鈥淎dvanced鈥 at the bottom. Then click 鈥淓ncrypt contents to secure data鈥 and click 鈥淥K.鈥
