What Academy Award-winning actor has reportedly signed on to play J.D. Salinger?

The movie 'Coming Through the Rye,' written and directed by Jim Sadwith, will center on two young adults trying to track down the 'Catcher in the Rye' author.

Actor Chris Cooper will reportedly play 鈥�The Catcher in the Rye鈥� author J.D. Salinger in an upcoming film.

According to the , 鈥淭he Amazing Spider-Man 2鈥� actor Cooper will star in the movie 鈥淐oming Through the Rye,鈥� which is being directed and written by Jim Sadwith. 鈥淩ye鈥� is based partly on Sadwith鈥檚 own encounters with Salinger and follows two young adults (Stefania Owen of 鈥淭he Carrie Diaries鈥� and Alex Wolff of 鈥淚n Treatment鈥�) trying to track down the author. The story is set in 1969 (鈥淭he Catcher in the Rye鈥� came out in 1951).

Salinger was the subject of a movie last year with the release of the documentary 鈥淪alinger,鈥� which was directed by Shane Salerno. Monitor film critic Peter Rainer gave the film a B, calling it 鈥渂y turns fascinating and infuriating鈥� [it鈥檚] heavy on the psychobiography.鈥�
