Fans of Cassandra Clare鈥檚 multiple book series set in the world of her 鈥淢ortal Instruments鈥 novels are about to get new material on multiple platforms.
According to , Clare is working with authors Robin Wasserman, Sarah Rees Brennan, and Maureen Johnson for novellas that will be released in e-format. They鈥檙e titled 鈥淭ales from the Shadowhunter Academy,鈥 which refers to the location where many of the books鈥 characters learn how to fight otherworldly beings.聽
One novella will be released every month.
鈥淲rapping up the 鈥楳ortal Instruments鈥 series was a hugely emotional time for me,鈥 Clare told EW. 鈥淚t was so hard to let the characters go, but I felt I鈥檇 left them in good places. All except Simon 鈥 his ending was unconventional and open for more story. I knew I wanted him to go through the training process to become a Shadowhunter, something we haven鈥檛 really seen鈥 The stories will follow Simon, but also flip back and forth in time so you can expect to see Jace and Clary, Will and Jem, Tessa, and Emma 鈥 characters old and new!鈥
Clare鈥檚 series 鈥淭he Mortal Instruments鈥 concluded this past May with the book 鈥淐ity of Heavenly Fire.鈥 She has also published a trilogy, 鈥淭he Infernal Devices,鈥 that was set in the same universe as the contemporary 鈥淢ortal鈥 books but which took place in the Victorian era. The first book in her forthcoming series 鈥淭he Dark Artifices,鈥 which will be set in the same fictional world, is set to debut in 2015. The series 鈥淭he Bane Chronicles鈥 is a group of novellas centering on the character Magnus Bane from the 鈥淢ortal鈥 series. Johnson and Brennan worked with Clare on 鈥淏ane.鈥
Meanwhile, the world of 鈥淢ortal鈥 is reportedly coming to TV. The first 鈥淢ortal鈥 book, 鈥淭he Mortal Instruments: City of Bones,鈥 was adapted as a film that was released in 2013 and now, according to the , 鈥淯nforgettable鈥 producer Ed Decter will be the showrunner for a TV series based on the 鈥淢ortal鈥 books.
鈥淚t actually makes sense to do [the novels] as a TV series,鈥 Constantin Film film and TV head聽Martin Moszkowicztold the Hollywood Reporter. (Constantin has the rights to the 鈥淢ortal鈥 books and produced the movie.) 鈥淭here was so much from the book that we had to leave out of the聽Mortal Instruments聽film. In the series we'll be able to go deeper and explore this world in greater detail and depth.鈥
