Will 鈥Harry Potter鈥 director David Yates take the helm for the upcoming movie based in the 鈥淧otter鈥 universe, 鈥淔antastic Beasts and Where to Find Them鈥?聽
reporter Justin Kroll wrote that 鈥淵ates 鈥 has agreed to return鈥 for 鈥淏easts鈥 and that 鈥渂oth sides are in negotiations.鈥 Meanwhile, Borys Kit of the also wrote that Yates is 鈥渋n negotiations.鈥澛
Warner Bros., the studio behind 鈥淏easts,鈥 had no comment, according to Variety.聽
鈥淏easts鈥 is based on a book of the same name written by 鈥淧otter鈥 author J.K. Rowling in the style of a textbook for magic students. The movie will reportedly center on 鈥淏easts鈥 author Newt Scamander and his adventures. The screenplay for the first movie is being written by Rowling.
Yates directed the last four 鈥淧otter鈥 films, from 鈥Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix,鈥 based on the fifth 鈥淧otter鈥 volume, to the two movies based on the book 鈥Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.鈥 The last four movies were some of the most critically acclaimed films of the series, with 鈥淒eathly Hallows 鈥 Part Two鈥 holding a score of 87 out of 100 on review aggregator website , the highest score of any 鈥淧otter鈥 movie on the site.
Monitor film critic Peter Rainer wrote of Yates鈥檚 work on 鈥淗arry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince,鈥 鈥溾橦alf-Blood Prince鈥 is in every way superior to its immediate predecessor, 'Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix,' which, like this film, was directed by聽David Yates. Maybe he just felt more comfortable this time around dealing with kids whose emotions were rampagingly human. He's good with the other stuff, too 鈥 the sinister elements without which 鈥楬arry Potter鈥 wouldn't be 鈥楬arry Potter.鈥欌澛
The 鈥淧otter鈥 trilogy was directed by four different directors, with 鈥淧ercy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief鈥 director Chris Columbus taking the lead on the first two installments, Alfonso Cuaron of 鈥淕ravity鈥 directing the third film 鈥淗arry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban,鈥 鈥淕reat Expectations鈥 helmer Mike Newell taking on the fourth film 鈥淗arry Potter and the Goblet of Fire,鈥 and Yates directing the rest.
