'Outlander' is renewed for a second season after high ratings for series premiere

鈥淥utlander鈥 has been renewed by its network, Starz, and according to Starz, the show is a hit with both men and women.
Starz announced that 鈥淥utlander鈥 had been renewed for a second season before the second episode of the show aired on Aug. 16. The first series of the show, which is based on the bestselling series of books by Diana Gabaldon, will consist of eight episodes airing this fall and another eight airing in 2015.
The series follows World War II nurse Claire Fraser (played by Caitriona Balfe), who finds she has traveled back in time to 18th-century Scotland.
According to Starz, the second season of the show will follow the events of Gabaldon鈥檚 second novel in the series, 鈥淒ragonfly in Amber.鈥 The second season will have at least 13 episodes, according to .
Meanwhile, the show is apparently popular with both men and women, judging by ratings from the first episode. According to , the show鈥檚 premiere attracted 51 percent female viewers and 45 percent male viewers. Counting the episode鈥檚 numbers from TV as well as other viewing opportunities like the Starz website and On Demand, the 鈥淥utlander鈥 premiere was the highest-rated multi-platform audience in Starz history.
