Emily Giffin's newest bestseller 'The One & Only' explores a football-loving Texas town

Author Emily Giffin has scored another bestseller with this summer鈥檚 book 鈥淭he One & Only,鈥 the newest contemporary novel by the author about women and their relationships, both romantic, familial, and among friends.
鈥淥ne鈥 is Giffin鈥檚 seventh novel and it鈥檚 currently holding the eighth spot on the bestseller list for hardcover fiction for the week of July 6, while it鈥檚 occupying the eleventh spot on the IndieBound hardcover fiction list for the week of June 26, a list it鈥檚 stayed on since its debut on May 20.聽
writer Alicia Rancilio said 鈥淥ne鈥 is 鈥渙ne to read鈥 and that 鈥淓mily Giffin's specialty is writing about relationships, especially when they are messy and complicated,鈥 calling her characters 鈥渞elatable,鈥 while in the review for Giffin鈥檚 2012 novel 鈥淲here We Belong,鈥 the praised Giffin鈥檚 鈥渉umor, honesty, and originality鈥 and said that 鈥淸Jane] Austen would find it hard to put down.鈥澛
The author recently spoke with the about her newest book 鈥淥ne,鈥 which centers on a woman living in a football-obsessed Texas town who suddenly begins to doubt her life and the choices she made after a tragedy occurs in her area.
鈥淚 really wanted to explore the idea of unconventional love,鈥 she said of the inspiration for her new book. 鈥淚 feel so often we have this feeling that our life and our relationships should look and be a certain way. But what if we want something that isn't perfect on paper? What if we fell in love with the one person we shouldn鈥檛?"聽
Giffin鈥檚 book 鈥淪omething Borrowed鈥 was adapted as a film, which was released in 2011 and starred Ginnifer Goodwin and Kate Hudson. Giffin said she is currently working on a script for a movie adaptation of her book 鈥淪omething Blue.鈥
