'The BFG' film will reportedly be directed by Steven Spielberg

Spielberg's last project was the 2012 Oscar-nominated film 'Lincoln.'

Director Steven Spielberg will reportedly helm a film adaptation of Roald Dahl's novel 'The BFG.'

The planned film adaptation of Roald Dahl鈥檚 children鈥檚 novel 鈥淭he BFG鈥� will reportedly be directed by legendary helmer Steven Spielberg.

As we previously reported, Melissa Mathison, who was behind the script for the 1982 film 鈥淓.T.,鈥� is adapting the movie for the screen. Spielberg directed 鈥淓.T.鈥�

鈥淭he BFG,鈥� which was also released in 1982, follows a young girl named Sophie who meets a giant, who is the only one of his kind who doesn鈥檛 eat people and has large ears that allow him to hear others鈥� dreams. It was previously adapted as an animated film, which was released in 1989.

According to , the movie will be released in 2016.
