'Fifty Shades of Grey' casting: Fans react with disappointment
The leads for the 鈥�Fifty Shades of Grey鈥� film have been announced, but not everyone鈥檚 happy about them.
鈥淪ons of Anarchy鈥� actor Charlie Hunnam will portray the wealthy 海角大神 Grey in the movie and actress Dakota Johnson, who starred on the Fox sitcom 鈥淏en and Kate,鈥� will play protagonist Anastasia Steele. The news was first announced on 鈥淕rey鈥� author E.L. James鈥� Twitter page.
But some fans wanted others, such as 鈥淲hite Collar鈥� actor Matt Bomer or 鈥淕ilmore Girls鈥� actress Alexis Bledel, to take on the parts, and a petition has been launched on asking that the two take on the roles. More than 19,000 people have signed it so far. The document was created by a user named dontouchmypatch.
鈥淢att Bomer is the PERFECT DESCRIPTION OF CHRISTIAN GREY AND ALEXIS BLEDEL IS THE PERFECT ACTRESS TO REPRESENT ANASTASIA STEELE,鈥� the user wrote on the petition. 鈥淎nd if THEY ARE NOT, NOBODY WILL BE.鈥�
In addition, some Twitter users tweeted about the casting with the hashtags 鈥淣oBomerNoBledelNoMovie鈥� and 鈥淣oMattNoAlexisNoMovie.鈥�
Meanwhile, author added to the fuss by tweeting that he鈥檇 heard from James that 鈥�Twilight鈥� actor Robert Pattinson was her top choice for the role of 海角大神. (鈥淕rey鈥� reportedly started life as a fan fiction piece about Stephenie Meyer鈥檚 characters.)聽
鈥淭alked to E.L. James at a party over the summer: her first choice for 海角大神 was Rob Pattinson and Matt Bomer was never in the running,鈥� he wrote.

Later, Brunetti tweeted, 鈥淭hx to all the fans of FSOG for their overwhelming support of the casting choices. &I can't wait to start filming.鈥�
didn鈥檛 comment directly on the furor, but after she announced the casting, she tweeted, 鈥淭o all the supporters, lovers and haters 鈥� thank you so much for the passion that you have for this project. You all rock. All of you.鈥�
Casting choices for movies rarely please everyone, and Fandango.com contributing editor Erik Davis told the controversy reminded him of fans who became upset after the actors were announced for the movie 鈥淭wilight.鈥�
鈥淚 was watching these people and many were rabidly against this," Davis said. "And then look what happened. Pattinson and Stewart turned into superstars. People forget that they didn't like the casting originally.鈥�
鈥淣owhere Boy鈥� director Sam Taylor-Johnson is directing the film and it鈥檚 set to be released in August 2014.
