Bill Clinton's new book will tell us how to fix the US economy
Former president Bill Clinton created a publishing phenomenon when his 2004 memoir 鈥淢y Life鈥� sold more than 2.4 million copies in hardcover.
And now he鈥檚 announced he鈥檒l be releasing a new book in November, titled 鈥淏ack to Work,鈥� outlining his plan for fixing the US economy. Clinton said in a statement that he was motivated to write the book because of his concern for America鈥檚 current economic status.
鈥淚 wrote this book because I love my country and I鈥檓 concerned about our future,鈥� Mr. Clinton 鈥淎s I often said when I first ran for president in 1992, America at its core is an idea 鈥� the idea that no matter who you are or where you鈥檙e from, if you work hard and play by the rules, you鈥檒l have the freedom and opportunity to pursue your own dreams and leave your kids a country where they can chase theirs.鈥�
Clinton made the economy a major issue when he ran successfully for president in 1992, with his campaign coining the famous slogan 鈥淚t鈥檚 the economy, stupid.鈥�
The former president has expressed his ideas on how to fix the economy before now, including suggesting a focus on the problem of mortgage debt. 鈥淏ack to Work鈥� will outline the former president鈥檚 plans for repairing the economy, including increasing lending from banks and corporate investment, creating new businesses such as those that work on green technology, and increasing exports, says his publisher.
This will be Clinton鈥檚 third book since he left office in 2001. He wrote 鈥淏ack to Work鈥� over the last several months without help from a co-writer, according to the New York Times article. The former president also recently held the Clinton Global Initiative, which finished its seventh session in New York yesterday. Discussions at the summit between heads of state, business leaders and others included a focus on sustainable consumption and job creation.
鈥淏ack to Work鈥� will be published by Knopf. Clinton will tour to promote the book this fall, even as the 2012 presidential campaign will be in full swing.
