I just finished reading Suite Fran莽aise by Ir猫ne N茅mirovsky which exposed the destructiveness of class distinctions the French imposed on themselves during the German occupation of France in WWII.聽 The French聽were sometimes their own worst enemy, much crueler towards their countrymen in trying times than their so-called German enemy ever was.聽聽Even though the book is fiction, it feels real. N茅mirovsky was a Jew and died at Auschwitz.聽 Her book was saved and translated more than 40 years later.聽 And while many聽in her suite of characters are consumed with their own selfish and sometimes ridiculous聽concerns,聽some shine through with their love for others.
