The Inspector Barlach Mysteries

I have just finished The Inspector Barlach Mysteries by Friedrich D眉rrenmatt. These two novellas (鈥淭he Judge and his Hangman鈥 and 鈥淪uspicion鈥) were part of a series of discussions called 鈥淢ystery! Detective Fiction in the 20th Century 鈥 a notion of evil鈥 held in three Maine libraries. D眉rrenmatt was a prolific Swiss writer who wove deep questions of justice, morality, and ethics into the stories. As a longtime mystery fan, I found them quite different, raising substantial questions of identity, the nature of matter, and good.
