The church publishes the Monitor because it sees good journalism as vital to progress in the world. Since 1908, we鈥檝e aimed 鈥渢o injure no man, but to bless all mankind,鈥� as our founder, Mary Baker Eddy, put it.

Nevil Shute tells wonderful stories. On the Beach, his most well known, gives a loving view of 1950s nuclear angst, but his other novels (in audiobook form) are keeping me hooked on the English and Australian accents of the readers and the compassionate tales of an other era: "A Town like Alice," "Round the Bend," "The Chequer Board," and "The Far Country," transport me to interesting places with memorable characters.
