Need some help with selecting new books this year? The Monitor asked four bookstores what books they think will excite readers in 2018. These 13 recommendations are from four independent bookstores across the United States: Prairie Lights in Iowa City; the Strand in New York; Off the Beaten Path in Steamboat Springs, Colo.; and Parnassus Books in Nashville, Tenn. 10. 'Circe' (April 10) by Madeline Miller

鈥淐颈谤肠别鈥 by Madeline Miller, Little, Brown and Co., 400 pp.

This is the second novel for Madeline Miller, the Orange Prize-winner for her debut novel 鈥淭he Song of Achilles鈥 (2012). Circe, the witch from 鈥淭he Odyssey鈥 narrates the novel. Ms. Miller 鈥渂rings a remarkably conversational style to her Homeric retelling鈥 in 鈥淭he Song of Achilles,鈥 Yvonne Zipp writes in a Monitor review.
