(Read by Kirsten Potter; Random House Audio; five CDs; six hours)
Tyler takes on 鈥淭he Taming of the Shrew鈥 as part of the Hogarth Shakespeare Project, which asks contemporary novelists to retell one of the Bard鈥檚 plays. There are few sparks between Kate and her modern Petruchio, now Pyotr, although there are some clever moments and, in typical Tyler fashion, the small details are revealing and funny. Potter manages the sharp-tongued dialogue with panache, but her Russian accent is heavy-handed.
