10 best books of April: the Monitor's picks

Here are the 10 April releases most favored by the Monitor's book critics.

2. "Casebook," by Mona Simpson

How should a privileged young California teen react when his parents divorce? In the case of Miles Adler-Rich, he decides to spy on them 鈥 and in particular to learn what he can about his mother's new boyfriend. Along the way, however, the precocious Miles learns many things he didn't really want to know. Simpson鈥檚 sixth novel is full of insight, even as it showcases her deft touch with character creation.
