10 best books of November: the Monitor's picks

Here's what the Monitor's book critics are recommending in the month of November.

6. "The Ministry of Guidance Invites You to Not Stay," by Hooman Majd

Hooman Majd has written about Iran, his native country, before (including the award-winning "The Ayatollah Begs to Differ"), but this may be his most personal book so far. His bittersweet and sometimes funny account of life for him and his family in Tehran in 2011 reveals an Iran far more nuanced, sophisticated, and affluent than most Westerners might imagine.
