Ewalt enjoyed spending time on the website Reddit and at one point, users on the site organized a Secret Santa-style gift swap. The person Ewalt was assigned was a female college student in her twenties. "I learned right away that she liked to read and was studying to be an archaeologist 鈥 more than enough information to pick out a gift," he wrote. "But I dug deeper into her comment history, looking for something else ... and found it. A single post, over a year old, where she mentioned she'd played a role-playing game with some friends." He created a necklace which had a twenty-sided die (a key part of a role-playing game) as the charm and showed it to his wife. "Kara gave me a look that fell somewhere between amused and pitying," he wrote. "When I said I was going to make her a necklace, too, she seemed less than thrilled."
