Auction company Profiles in History will auction off the desk and its matching candelabra Dec. 15 and 16, according to Ireland鈥檚 . Over the last century, the prized piece of furniture saw its legs sawn short and its drawers gone missing. Over the years it became battered, scarred, and worn. Profiles in History restored and added to the piece imagery 鈥渁ppropriate to the great man鈥檚 inspirations and imaginings,鈥� writes the , including 鈥渂ats, a savage hound and scrolling rose thorns and buds.鈥� The piece also includes two secret compartments that will only be revealed to the new owner of the desk, according to the paper. The auction company expects the desk to sell for between $72,000 and $96,000.
