As the 2012 Olympics play out in London, David Wallechinsky鈥檚 latest book The Complete Book of the Olympics, 2012 Edition, provides some great finds about past Games.

5. Forgetting gold medals

That Chilean tennis player Nicolas Massu managed to leave behind not one, but two, gold medals in Athens in 2004 is hard to imagine. After all, they were his country鈥檚 first-ever Olympic gold medals. Massu broke the drought with a doubles victory, followed by a singles triumph the next day in an Olympic tournament where many of the superstars, including Roger Federer and Andy Roddick, lost before the medal matches. Apparently in the excitement surrounding his Olympic breakthroughs (celebrated back home by thousands in Santiago), Massu left his medals in his room at the Olympic Village, where Chile鈥檚 swimming coach found them.
