Consider this an amuse-bouche for those who have never read M.F.K. Fisher鈥檚 glorious musings on life, love, and gastronomy. For those well acquainted with her voluminous writings, this will feel redundant and less polished than her usual fare. Gathered and introduced by her biographer, Joan Reardon, this extensive collection consists of hard-to-find articles and short stories published in magazines and journals. Most are amusing and worth listening to, though one could have done without the recipes. Narrator Carolyn Cook has a pleasing and polished manner. Sounding both sweetly feminine and commanding, she displays perfect diction and knows how to deliver Fisher鈥檚 sly humor. Grade: B
