4 audiobooks for nonfiction readers

4. 'Four Seasons in Rome: On Twins, Insomnia, and the Biggest Funeral in the History of the World,' by Anthony Doerr

(Read by Anthony Doerr; Simon & Schuster Audio; 5 CDs; 6 hours; $29.99)

This audiobook is well produced with lovely classical music beginning each chapter. Doerr, while not a professional reader, brings sincerity to his narration. But unfortunately 鈥 despite some arresting moments 鈥 this book is eventually brought down by its own banality. Doerr is overly sentimental as he waxes on about his infant twins. Overall, his musings about writing and fatherhood and Italy feel like a jumble, a collection of ideas rather than a meaningful memoir.  Better to listen again to his Pulitzer Prize-winning 鈥淎ll the Light We Cannot See.鈥
