Bram Stoker books: 9 things you didn't know about the 'Dracula' author

One hundred and sixty-five years ago today Irish novelist and short story writer Abraham 'Bram' Stoker was born. A prolific writer, Stoker is best known for his 1897 Gothic horror novel, 'Dracula,' a vampire novel Hollywood and the publishing industry sank its teeth into with numerous stage, screen, and literary interpretations ranging from the first 'Dracula' movie to Stephanie Meyer鈥檚 'Twilight' series to 'Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter' to HBO鈥檚 'True Blood' and the CW Network鈥檚 'The Vampire Diaries.' In tribute to today鈥檚 Google Doodle honoring the little-known author behind one of history鈥檚 best-known vampire novels, we鈥檙e raising the cape on the mysterious writer with this list, presenting nine things you didn鈥檛 know about Bram Stoker.

1. Until age seven, he was a sickly, bed-ridden boy 'at the point of death'

The third of seven children, Stoker was extremely fragile as a boy. By his own telling, he was a bedridden child who never stood upright until the age of seven. 鈥淚n my babyhood I used, I understand, to be often at the point of death,鈥� he wrote in his . 鈥淐ertainly, till I was about seven years old I never knew what it was to stand upright.鈥�
