Senate stops Weicker filibuster

The Senate yesterday cracked a stubborn three-month filibuster, clearing the way for passage of anti-busing legislation. The Senate voted 61-36, one more than the needed 60, to kill the filibuster. It was the fifth attempt to put curbs on opponents of anti-bushing legislation.

Although the opponents, led by Sen. Lowell Weicker, R-Conn., can still delay a final vote with limited debate, yesterday's action made eventual passage possible.
